The Chislett Summer Navel Orange

A New Very Late Holding Navel Orange

Navel, traditional winter oranges, are renowned for their superior qualities as a table fruit, compared to valencias, the traditional summer variety. Now with the arrival of the Chislett Summer Navel, it will be possible to obtain high quality navel oranges well into the summe. This far exceeds the normal season of the Lane Late Navel.

In comparison with other emerging late navel oranges, the Chislett Summer Navel exceeds others in size and ability to hold on the tree.

Dec/Jan 1995: Murray Valley Citrus Marketing Board Report

"Summer Navels: Late in December, and for the best part of January Maranga Packers supplied a total of 1846 cartons of Chislett Summer Navels in direct competition with the U.S. imports. Independent retailers who were not prepared to stock U.S. fruit eagerly snapped up the local product and willingly paid $35 for counts 48 to 72 and $26/$28 for 80/88. There was virtually no fruit smaller than count 88, the internal quality was excellent and the rind color better than expected.

There was certainly no sign of unacceptable granulation and this was verified by the fact that I weighed three cartons of count 36/41 which did not fall below 21 kilos. Retailers interviewed were incredulous when first shown this line as they did not believe that we could have a navel of such quality available so late."
